Maths A-level Mechanics

Reviews months # 01

When I started this blog I would like to be able to review from time to time I would see every film, but the lack of time and therefore also should have made that goal impossible. So I decided to start this book, which describe much shorter than I wanted the film that I happen to look, while the full treatment it shall reserve only to the films that I will feel really worthy of a more thorough review.

This month I have also chosen a theme common to every little analysis, namely that the use was made of picture and sound (especially the picture) in telling the various stories, the only choices that justify the creation of a film. In my opinion, in fact, if these instruments are not properly exploited, might as well use another medium, such as that of printed paper. I watch more movies and more I realize that, in addition to gender, they could be divided into two main groups: that of the films really as such, and that of the films that could safely be left on paper. The choice of which format you decide to tell a story is a very important choice, because the format affects the story itself. For me choose to do is to choose a film to tell a story that has a good storyline and yes some good dialogue, but if these aspects (fondamentali!) are not accompanied by a good photograph and a good soundtrack, you might as well tell the same story with a book, you not only save on various costs of production and distribution, but it has the ability to analyze very best thoughts and feelings of various characters.

Title: In Bruges - The Conscience Assassin (In Bruges)
Year: 2008
Country: UK / Belgium
Genre: Thriller / Drama
Length: 107 minutes
Director: Martin
McDonagh Screenwriter: Martin McDonagh
Cast: Colin Farrell (Ray), Brendan Gleeson (Ken), Ralph Fiennes (Henry), Clémence Poésy (Chloe)
Production: Film4
Distribution: Focus Features

In Bruges belongs to that category of films where the less you know, the more you appreciate it. Because I liked and I would like that my few readers would see him, as I usually do not describe the plot of this movie, but I'll just say that talk of murders, of redemption and of people very, very rude.

In Bruges not particularly impressed me for his photograph, nor for its soundtrack, and if it had been relegated to the print world, it would leave a nice long story. However, the acting of all actors and the dialogue question and answer these throughout the film make this film a play for the screen, where pictures and music have fewer than the characters and their lines, but they help to make the story much more enjoyable and lively than it would otherwise result in a simple sheet.

Pro
+ Excellent acting by all actors
+ lively dialogue and never boring
+ Funny without being stupid

Against
- The picture has not fully exploited the location Belgian

Judgement
+2
Recommended for those who want to spend an evening with a good funny movie but not stupid, and clever without being heavy.

Title: Facing Windows
Year: 2003
Country: Italy
Genre: Drama / Romance
Length: 106 minutes
Director: Ferzan Ozpetek
Screenplay: Ferzan Ozpetek, Gianni Romoli
Performers: Giovanna Mezzogiorno (Giovanna), Massimo Girotti (Simon / David), Raoul Bova (Lorenzo), Serra Yilmaz (Emin)
Production: R & C
Distribution: Cecchi Gori

Facing Windows speaks to Joan, a young employee in a poultry shops who unwittingly finds himself having to sleep in an old house found on the street in a state of absolute confusion. To help her come out of this mess when he shoved her husband eternal child, the tenant of the apartment in front of her, warning that Joan has long been the window of his kitchen.

is rather a product that would have done better to finish the shelves of a library, instead of a video library. Facing Windows is a film that addresses many issues: the Holocaust, the changing times, the marital unhappiness, the job dissatisfaction, lack of loved ones have died or left. As each is shown with some interesting points of view, none of them is treated in such a way as to justify the visual medium. Ferzan Ozpetek it uses images to tell his story, but not exploits, exactly how many TV series and films for television, where the choice of medium is not determined by artistic demands, but commercial. Even so, this film has snapped up awards, but again, as in the case of Inglourious Basterds , I just can not explain it.

Pro
+ + The topics
The acting of John South
+ The character played by Serra Yilmaz

Against
- The topics, however interesting, are not explored in depth
- The choice to make a movie and not a book
- Raoul Bova

Judgement
Indifferent.
I was sorry to see him, but he did not leave anything in particular. It's nice to still see an Italian actress capable of playing characters and non-trivial, as they are to other American and homegrown productions.

Title: Ask me if I'm happy
Year: 2000
Country: Italy
Genre: Comedy
Length: 110 minutes
Director: Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo and Massimo Venier
Screenplay: AG & G, Massimo Venier, Paul Cananzi, Walter Fontana, Graziano Ferrari
Performers: Aldo Baglio (Aldo), Giovanni Storti (John), Giacomo Poretti (James), Marina Massironi (Navy), Silvana Fallisi (Silvana)
Production:
Medusa Distribuzione: Medusa

Aldo makes appearance at Scale and is in love with Dalia, but asked Silvana, her insufferable ex, to marry him, and is unable to confess the truth, John makes the human dummy to Upim, and fell in love with Marina, when he met her by accident Silvana went to give on behalf of Aldo, Giacomo is the voice actor for the extras of the film, and is looking for a woman. Together, the three friends share a passion for the theater, and dream of staging a performance of Cyrano de Bergerac Rostand.

As comedy verging on comic , Ask me if I'm happy could only be a movie theater that allows the extension to put greater emphasis on actions and expressions of the actors. It 's a pity though that despite the interesting subject, Massimo Venier was unable to give a brake to his players to give him a rhythm. Unfortunately, the comedy has this major flaw, namely that he needs to make people laugh of his time. Sometimes you have to play on the question and answer, sometimes the tension, and this without being repetitive and using the right words. Ask me if I'm happy ignore these rules, and this is no different from the mass of the many family films made in some way. It is a pity, because if the ideas behind this production had been exploited with a little 'more professional would be able to come up with something worthy of note.

Pro
+ The three main characters, comic and tragic set
+ The storyline as a whole

Against
- The rhythms of the various sketches
mismanaged - is impressive to see AG & G to pretend to be boys in their twenties

Judgement
Indifferent.
The first time I saw this movie I was ten years old, and seemed to me a masterpiece. I was impressed by the way in which they had decided to manage the theme of friendship, and I was moved by the final set in the theater. Reviewed through the eyes of now, I think Ask if they are not happy is a masterpiece.

Title: Velvet Blu (Blue Velvet)
Year: 1986
Country: USA
Genre: Thriller / Drama
Length: 120 minutes
Director: David Lynch
Screenplay: David Lynch
Interpreters : Kyle MacLachlan (Jeffrey Beaumont), Isabella Rossellini (Dorothy Vallens), Dennis Hopper (Frank Booth), Laura Dern (Sandy Williams)
Production: De Laurentiis
Distribution: De Laurentiis

Jeffrey, a young American boy twenties, starts to see his quiet hometown in a different light when it finds a field in one ear cut off and when investigating on his own, starts a relationship with a woman with obvious mental problems exploited by a local criminal.

There's little you can do Blue Velvet would have to be a book. At least there would have been able to figure it out if the author had been kind enough to give a final spiegone. This film has been praised for the way they are opposed to the reality of day and night an American citizen of the province, behind idyll hides a curtain of crime and violence. Perhaps in 1986 this comparison could be new and shocking, as well as scenes of sexual violence (although, in reality, it is not rape itself), but in 2009 was just pathetic, as is everything in which the cosist film. Blue Velvet it is a film that plays on the feelings that give certain images, but the plot has little to offer, if not inconsistency (the protagonist is a guy who all of a sudden white 007), blocks (the daughter Commissioner who is introduced as it emerges from the darkness), unnecessary detail (the father of the protagonist at the beginning of the film is a victim of a stroke) and sequences incomprehensible (the appearance of Man in Yellow, lobotomized, and the husband of singer crazy, dead in the apartment of that singer in the finale). Blue Velvet is not a story, is a cauldron of emotions, conveyed by a set of symbols, however, lose value when included in the basic stupidity of the story, and in the eyes of modern viewers accustomed to other crudities that could be upsetting to the public instead of the 80s is now just ridiculous.

Pro
+ If you look at yourself in the dark with a good percentage of alcohol in the body in a state of mental and physical fatigue and vague depression, could impress with his images "strong" and its structure dream

Against
- The story has neither head nor tail
- The firefighter who salutes, and all the other crap I listed
- Details useless as his father took a stroke and her fiance Sandy
- The face always equal MacLachlan

Judgement
-3
pretentious and pathetic. There is more intention than in substance.
